Make Pendrive Bootable / Format your PC using Pendrive or USB Drive

You use CDs or DVD to install Operating System in your Desktop or Laptop. I hate optical drives.
They are very irritating. Protecting them with scratches is also a big deal.
But if we consider pendrive or USB flash drive for this work then it will be more efficient, fast and good.
Pendrives never get scratched. They are small in size so we can keep them anywhere.
We don't need to worry about scratches and all for pendrives.

MAJOR DISADVANTAGES OF AN OPTICAL DISC

  • The very first thing I would like to say that it is very irritating to keep optical discs. They always get lost from me (My personal view :( :P ha ha But I am sure most of you had the same experience)
  • The optical discs get scratched. When I was unknown from pendrivebooting I used to buy a new disc always when I wanted to format my pc.
  • Optical drives are slow as compared to USB drives.
Now I always format my desktop or laptop with my pendrive which is very easy and fast. I don't need to buy a new optical disc anymore. So lets see how can we make pendrive bootable.

THINGS NEEDED FOR MAKING BOOTABLE USB DRIVE

  • ISO image file of your operating system which you want to install
  • Windows USB/DVD Download Tool (Only for windows 8 or 8.1)
  • Rufus

WINDOWS USB/DVD DOWNLOAD TOOL

This is the first method will only work for windows 8 or 8.1. So for creating a bootable windows 8 pendrive you will first need to get this tool.
You can download it from the following links:
Note: Both are the same links but one is shortened by adfly (to earn some amount but I really don't want to annoy my readers so I provided the otherdirect link as well. So you can click on anyone :)...)
Once you have downloaded the tool install it in your pc as you install every other app (agree...next...next..next and finish :P )

Now open the application from the desktop shortcut or start menu (it will be created after installation). Now it is very simple to do
  • Browse your source ISO file and click next
  • Click on USB Device (You can select dvd as well if you want to create bootable dvd)
  • Select your USB drive from the dropdown list and click on start copying
  • It will prompt you to erase the data of USB click yes
  • Now you have to wait and it will be copied after a while.
Note: Pendrive will be formatted and your data will be lost so use a blank pendrive or pendrive with no useful data on it.
This app will only work for windows 8 or windows 8.1. So keep reading if you want to create bootable USB drive of any other OS (linux, xp etc).

CREATE BOOTABLE PENDRIVE WITH RUFUS

This is a perfect tool for creating bootable pendrives. I use this always. Download this tool from the links given below.
Plugin your USB Drive. Unzip the folder and open Rufus 1.3.3. You will see the app (see the image below).
Rufus V1.3.3
  • Match all the configuration and settings from the image above and then click on the cd icon (circled red)
  • A pop window will open asking for the ISO image file of your Operating System.
  • Select your ISO file and click on Start
  • Now wait and your pen drive will be ready to format your system after a while.

FORMATTING YOUR SYSTEM WITH PENDRIVE

It is same as you format your system with CD. Just go to your bios and on boot device priority set your pendrive on the top. Or you can also start your system using your pendrive from boot menu.
